Invitation-100 Days for Mandalas-A Summer Creativity Camp For All Ages -Starts June 1st

INVITATION – 100 Days to be Inspired & Creative – Not 100 mandalas in 100 days.

This is an invitation for anyone who creates mandalas to join in the 100 Days for Mandala Creativity Fest. It is 100 Days for Mandalas, not 100 days for 100 mandalas.  So that means however many mandalas you want to create in that time frame – go for it.  It could be 1 mandala, or 200, or any number that feels right. It begins on June 1st and ends on September 8th. And if you want to join anytime during the 100 days, that is ok too.
A mandala is simply an image in a circular form, with an obvious or implied center point. Mandala mean sacred circle in Sanskrit and is often used as a to way to center, transform and heal.  For most people who create mandalas, it is the increase in creativity that inspires.

WHO IS INVITED TO BE PART OF 100 DAYS FOR MANDALAS
Everyone is welcome to join in, from ages 8 to 108.

If you’ve never created mandalas before, this is a time you may want to start.  Long time mandala makers are welcome. Mandala making does not require any art experience. Simple marks and doodle like images are what anyone can create in their mandalas.  Simple or more involved and complex mandalas are welcome too.

WHAT KIND OF MANDALAS
There are lots of kinds of mandalas.  They are created by nature or humans –flowers, sea shells, seeds, man hole covers, etc, etc.  Photographs, bead work, mixed media or any other media used to create mandalas can be part of 100 Days for Mandalas.

Found objects can be arranged into a mandala pattern. There is a meditative practice called ensō, which is simply a one stroke with Sumi ink made with a Chinese calligraphy brush. And of course mandalas can be created on paper, canvas, or other surfaces with all kinds of art materials. Mixed media is a perfect choice, as are any other art materials.

ART JOURNALING MANDALAS
Mandalas can be created with our without words, as a type of art journaling. Some mandala makers journal about their mandala experience on a separate piece of paper and others write on the mandala itself.

Some create mandalas as images without words and that is enough. Mandalas can be made either way.

SUMMER CAMP
This is meant to be like an online summer camp of creativity. Fun, light, easy, enjoyable. There is no race, just summer time ease.

I envision a wrap around porch with a table set up full of fun art supplies and paper. A cool breeze, iced tea, shade trees swaying and cooling , birds singing and the flow of creativity all around. Perhaps your vision of another perfect summertime setting is what centers your soul.  Find that place in your mind and heart and become part of this camp.

WHERE THIS CRAZY IDEA CAME FROM

My travel companion, Kelly Larson, went with me on the recent road trip through New Mexico to check out The Mandala Center. I will be teaching a five day mandala course along with Kelly in July. When we were in Taos, we meet a woman whose sister-in-law created 100 mandalas in 100 days.  This inspired us, BUT I knew I would fail and feel an unpleasant pressure to do one a day if that was what we tried to do.  So we decided to create something a little different, in the spirit of summer camp, where easy creativity is the playing field and community part of the experience.

GATHER YOUR MATERIALS

This blog is your invitation to join 100 Days for Mandalas, so mark the date June 1st and gather materials to be ready to start.  Any art materials can be used to create a mandala. Mixed media is perfect, but everything is raw material for this creative alchemy.
