100 Days for Mandalas – Session Three – AWAKE – part two
October 9th, 2013
AWAKE is the word meant to inspire this week. There are so many ways to be awakened. I found inspiration with words and pages of a journal portfolio that I made at a workshop in Utah a few years ago.
My dear friend Kelly and I traveled to a mountain workshop outside of Park City, Utah to learn how to make plaster portfolio covers with pages of paper that we colored and/or altered inside. I finished the covers. The pages were colored with some collaged items as background, but never “finished” as journal pages. The paper was handmade in India. I love its heave texture and uneven edges.
This beautiful journal has been sitting on a shelf waiting for the words and images to complete it. Sort of like the fine China that begs to be used, so I decided now was the time to complete the pages. I began by adding the word AWAKE to one of the small pages that fits in the front pocket. I took one of the unfinished pages, added the mandala with the Eye of Ra reprinted it in a smaller size, added more cropped eyes and stamped – “awaken the divine within”.
This page below already had a print of one of my mandalas from my coloring book. I added some ink doodles and stamped the work “awaken”. Words that came to mind with the word awaken are written in the doodles.
On this page, I printed a mandala I had created before, added outlines and a quote from Carl Jung about awakening.
This page had a small paper doilie pasted onto the paper. More doodles were added, along with the word AWAKENING.
I am going to “finish” more of these pages in the next few weeks. It feels good the make the pages complete
